Multiple Backgrounds Tutorial ![]() 1. Open up several images that you would like to use as a background. 2. On each file go to Edit > Define Pattern... 3. Next, open your image. I used this one (click it to view full size): ![]() 4. Outline the person. If you don't know how to do that, refer to my other tutorial: here. 5. After outlining, make the person on a new layer. A shortcut to do this is pressing control J. 6. Now go to your layers palette, and press the little f button! Then click on 'Stroke...' It looks like below. ![]() 7. I set the size to 30px, and Fill Type to pattern. My settings look like below: ![]() 8. Press okay. 9. Now my image looks like below (click for the full size): ![]() 10. Now here's the tricky part... 11. Go to the layers palette, and create a new layer by pressing this button: ![]() 12. Your layers palette should resemble below: ![]() 13. Drag Layer 1 above Layer 2. So it looks like below: ![]() 14. Now click control + e. Or go to Layer > Merge down. It should look like this: ![]() 15. Press the little F button again... select Stroke... and repeat step #7. 16. You should now have two backgrounds... repeat steps #11-14 to add more backgrounds to the photo! For the typical 'preppy' signs found on myspace, everyone does it twice.
