Article I: Name

The name of this club is The Lyceum (a philosophy club).


Article II: Objective

The objective of The Lyceum shall be:
1. To allow students to participate in a healthy mental activity.
2. The Coral Springs High School Philosophy Club will serve as a vehicle to promote quick wit, developed minds, and a command over the consciousness through the exploration of and the dialogue about philosophical ideas.
3. That the club will create an avenue for students to exhibit pride through their representation in a school club.
4. To offer an additional club activity to those students who are interested in the subject of philosophy.

Article III: Members

The requirements for membership in The Lyceum are as follows:
1. That the club will be open to all Coral Springs High School students, without regard to age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender, linguistic differences, national origin, marital status, race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background.
2.To be eligible to participate in the club, students must have been regularly promoted from the 8th grade and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent in the courses required for high school graduation.

Article IV: Costs/Funding

1. The Lyceum Philosophy Club will be self-funded and will not receive financial assistance from Coral Springs High School or the Broward County School Board. All club costs including but not limited to: sashes and/or t-shirts, and books and costs from participating in the club activities and contests will be the sole responsibility of the club and individual club members.
2. The Coral Springs High School Philosophy Club shall adhere to and follow School Board policy #6206, “Money Raising Activities for all Fundraising.”
3. The Lyceum Philosophy Club shall have on file with the school, if required, a certificate of insurance naming the school as additionally insured to the limits required per school Board Policy #1341. This document is intended to indemnify the School Board.

Article V: Officers and Representatives

Any member may be removed from the club by the faculty sponsor or principal for inappropriate behavior or misconduct. The facilitator shall report any incident that has led to the student’s suspension from participating in discussions.

Article VI: Elections

Section 1. The election of officers shall take place in the first thirty days of the school year in which the officers are to serve.
Section 2. Special meetings of the executive committee may be called by the president, advisor, principal or upon written request of any three members of the club. No previous notice is required if a special meeting is held during school, but at least one day’s notice is required if it is to be held after school.
Section 3. The executive committee shall carry out all duties assigned to it in these by-laws.
Section 4. The election shall be under he the direction of the elections committee.

Article VI: Elections

Article VII: Meetings

Section 1. The Lyceum Philosophy Club shall meet regularly.
Section 2. A special meeting can be called by the president, the executive committee, the advisor, the principle or by written request by club members. The purpose for the meeting shall be stated at the call. No previous notice is required if it is held during school. If it is held after school, at least one day’s notice is required.

Article VIII: Executive Committee

Section 1. The elected officers are the voting members of the executive committee. The appointed officers and the advisor are non-voting members.
Section 2. The executive committee shall be subject to the orders of the faculty representative or the principal and none of its acts shall conflict with the school policy.
Section 3. Special meetings of the executive committee may be called by the president, the executive committee, the advisor, the principal or by written request of any three members.
Section 4. The executive committee shall carry out all duties assigned to it by these bylaws.

Article IX: Relationship with Administration

Section 1. The Lyceum Philosophy Club shall have a faculty member serve as the school’s sponsor to aid and oversee Philosophy Club in its activities. The faculty advisor shall be present at all club activities including discussions. The faculty advisor shall serve as the club’s liaison to the administration.
Section 2. The Coral Springs High School Philosophy Club shall conform to the philosophies and policies of the school. The Coral Springs High School Philosophy Club shall function like all school clubs under the authority of the principal.
Section 3. All activities of The Lyceum Philosophy Club students shall be governed by the code of conduct.


Article X: Amendment of Bylaws

These bylaws cannot be amended at any regular meeting of The Lyceum Philosophy Club.
